Cancellation of Removal (also known as cancellation of deportation) is a form of relief available to certain non-permanent residents in the United States who are in removal proceedings. It allows individuals to apply to remain in the country lawfully despite being subject to deportation. There are two types of Cancellation of Removal: one for lawful permanent residents (LPRs) and another for non-LPRs.

For non-LPRs, the eligibility criteria typically include continuous physical presence in the United States for a specified period (usually 10 years), good moral character, no disqualifying criminal convictions, and demonstrating that deportation would cause exceptional and extremely unusual hardship to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident spouse, parent, or child. If granted, individuals may receive lawful permanent resident status.

Cancellation of Removal for LPRs requires demonstrating seven years of lawful permanent residence, five years of continuous residence in the U.S., no aggravated felony convictions, and showing that removal would result in extreme hardship to the individual's U.S. citizen or LPR spouse, parent, or child.

These processes can be complex, and eligibility criteria may vary depending on individual circumstances.
